RadiusWare PCI 1.3 Software ThunderPower 30/1920 ThunderColor 30/1600 and ThunderColor 30/1152 Thunder 30/1600 and Thunder 30/1152 PrecisionColor 8/1600 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS & SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION June 12, 1996 Table of Contents • Important Note to Thunder and ThunderColor PCI graphics card Users • Installation Instructions • Contents of the Radius Software Folder • Tips & Troubleshooting • Technical Support • Known Bugs & Bug Fixes ________________________________________ IMPORTANT NOTE TO THUNDER, THUNDERPOWER, AND THUNDERCOLOR PCI GRAPHICS CARD USERS Radius Highly recommends that you use the latest system software with our PCI graphics cards. At the time these release notes were created that software is System 7.5.3. System 7.5.3 comes in two flavors: System 7.5.3 (PCI), which only runs on PCI machines and "regular" 7.5.3, which is the product of applying System Update 2.0 on top of System 7.5. If for some reason you must run the original PCI release, System 7.5.2, please understand that very early versions this software will cause your Thunder card to not work on PowerMacintosh 7200, 7500, and 8500 machines. With this early software, Thunder cards can be used in the lower three slots of the PowerMacintosh 9500. This incomptibility was fixed (by Apple) in newer versions of System 7.5.2 starting with version 1.0.1 of "System Enabler 701" which can be found in your "System Folder" . An earlier version of this Read Me file may have implied that there is something wrong (from a hardware standpoint) with the upper 3 slots of the PowerMacintosh 9500. This is NOT true. An anomaly in the system software was resolved by Apple beginning with versions of "System Enabler 701" version 1.0.1 (and latter). "System Enabler 701" no longer exists in System 7.5.3. Bottom line: Run System 7.5.3! ________________________________________ INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS This diskette contains Radius software that is necessary to activate the features of your Radius display interface and/or display. To install RadiusWare software for your specific configuration, 1. Make sure all Radius hardware for your system is installed and operational. 2. Insert the RadiusWare disk and double-click the Installer icon. 3. Click OK after reading the introductory information. 4. Click the INSTALL button to install Radius software into the System Folder on your startup disk. Alternatively, hold down the Option key and click on SYSTEM DISK to install the Radius software onto a different start-up disk. The Installer will remove any outdated versions of these files. 5. When installation is complete, click RESTART to restart your system. ________________________________________ CONTENTS OF RADIUS INSTALLER The Radius Installer contains the following software files for use with Radius display systems and graphic interface cards: • Dynamic Desktop PCI, version 1.3, provides QuickDraw acceleration, resolution switching, and access to the virtual desktops and pan and zoom features of the Thunder 30-series of display interfaces. It also provides "on-the-fly" bit-depth and resolution switching without opening the Monitors control panel. ________________________________________ TIPS &TROUBLESHOOTING: • The purpose of the "T" key is to provide the user a visible interface (screen) when the display will not otherwise display an image (sync up). Once you find a visible selection, we then recommend that you use Dynamic Desktop to choose a display with functionality that is compatible with your display. • To avoid errors caused by system overheating, always keep the cover closed on your computer. This increases airflow within your Macintosh and enhances its cooling capacity. Installing the display interface card close to the auxiliary fan in a Power Macintosh 9500 will also help to keep the interface card cool. • If you have a Radius Color Display/21, the displays list in the Monitors control panel will show two entries for your display. Each entry has a number following it. The number corresponds to a particular model number. Look at the rear of your Radius Color Display/21 to determine which selection is appropriate for your display. • Some applications do not adapt to a new screen size if you switch resolutions while the application is running. This can cause some application elements (such as palettes or portions of a working window) to disappear off the screen. These applications are called "Launch Sensitive" because they assume the screen size will remain the same as you use the application. Avoid changing the resolution while Launch-Sensitive applications (e.g.: Adobe PhotoShop™ and Fractal Design™ Painter) are running. • Avoid key command settings in Dynamic Desktop that are commonly used as keyboard short-cuts for both applications and the Finder. For example, Command-Option, which hides the current application. This key combination if selected within Dynamic Desktop may be set to bring up the Radius pop-up menu when the mouse is positioned over an application window but will hide the current application when the mouse is over an area of the Finder. To avoid confusion with key commands, choose combinations that are not used by other applications or the Finder. • If you use a Radius Pressview 21 display, with ANY RADIUS graphic card, please do not attach the H and V connectors to the display. These connectors will cause incorrect timings to be used. The correct timings are used when these connectors are not used with this display. • Currently the "Control" key may not be used as a modifier for the Pan Modes hot key in Dynamic Desktop. This will be fixed in the next release of software. • Radius has switched from the Apple Installer to the MindVision Installer. Therefore, the screens on page 1 and page 2 will look different, but the installer will work the same. __________________________________________ TECHNICAL SUPPORT If you have a problem you cannot resolve through your Radius Authorized Reseller, contact Radius Technical Support by phone at (408) 541-5700.
